In the Moment
Paintings by Josiah King
Saturday, July 16 - Saturday August 6, 2016

Opening reception Saturday, July 16, 6-8 pm -
Artist gallery talk, 7pm

Josiah's lush paintings are remarkable observations on otherwise unremarkable things that we encounter daily.

Artist's statement
My work is about the pursuit of the intrinsic spiritual quality found in the observation of objects and spaces. I use the word "presence" to describe this quality, which is often represented through light. Most recently, I have been painting reflections on floors, which are not typically considered for their beauty. I am interested in finding the beauty in these prosaic subjects, and expressing it through paint.

Josiah King earned his art degree from the University of Mount Olive, in North Carolina, and will be finishing his Master of Fine Arts degree in Painting from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania this year. A resident of North Carolina, he has shown in the North Carolina Museum of Art, the United States Capitol Building in Washington DC, and the Erie Art Museum.
