Works by Crary Art Gallery namesake Clare Crary, whose hundreds of photographs form a large part of the Gallery's founding Permanent Collection.

These photos of Warren County scenes were printed by Clare in the early part of the last century. His darkroom process reflects a formidable knowledge of contemporary photography of the day, and the end photos are creatively interpreted from the raw material of his film negatives.

Many of his photos were seen around the world in competitive juried exhibitions and in professional photography magazines of the day. These photos, conserved and reframed, are on display at the Crary for the first time since his memorial exhibition in 1977.
