Winners of the contest: Piper VanOrd (two photos), Judy Cole Blank and Mark Hulings! Congratulations!

This fall, the Crary Art Gallery and the Warren-based nonprofit organization Friends of Allegheny Wilderness will host an exhibition of wilderness images featuring world-class photographers from around the country to honor the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964 as well to honor the legacy of Tionesta native and Wilderness Act author Howard Zahniser.
Wilderness at 50: Photographic Reflections on the Legacy of Tionesta Visionary Howard Zahniser.

In addition to featuring wilderness images from around the country, the gallery is hosting a photography contest which will profile the two designated wilderness areas right here in the Allegheny National Forest – - Hickory Creek and Allegheny Islands Wilderness Areas. Photographers were invited to explore and photograph these two very popular areas, and submit their best photos for possible inclusion in this exhibition.

Guidelines:

There is no submission fee.

Photos must be shot within either of the two wilderness areas in the Allegheny National Forest: Hickory Creek Wilderness and/or Allegheny Islands Wilderness.

(In the case of Allegheny Islands, the photos can be taken from the river or riverside looking at the wilderness islands; you don't necessarily have to be standing on one of the islands.)

Limit four total image submissions per entrant.

Two winning photos will be chosen to represent the Hickory Creek Wilderness, and two for the Allegheny Islands Wilderness, for a total of four winning photos to be included in the show.

Submissions will be accepted until July 20th, with a final decision on the winning photographs announced by July 26th.

All submissions are electronic, sent in JPEG format to info@pawild.org. Please include in your email (one image per email): your contact information, title of the photo, location (the wilderness area in which it was taken), and retail sale price.
JPEGs should measure about 2000 pixels on the longest side.
(Reminder: Save a version of the original file at the largest native file size - uncompressed - in case it wins and needs to be printed for the exhibition.)

Entries will be posted in online albums on both the FAW (www.pawild.org) and Crary Art Gallery Facebook pages for public input, but the final decision on winning entries will be made by the FAW and Crary boards of directors.

Winning photographers are responsible for having their photos printed, framed, delivered and ready to hang for the show. Suggested dimensions are 22"x30" or equivalent area.

Winning photographers are welcome to make their framed photos available for sale during the show. The gallery will retain 35% of any sale, so your retail price should include that.

Exhibition opens on Saturday, August 30 and runs through Sunday, September 28, 2014. More details to follow here later....

Delivery and pickup are the responsibility of the lender. If any photograph is not picked up within three weeks of the close of the show, it becomes the property of the Crary Art Gallery.

Contest entrants acknowledge that Friends of the Allegheny Wilderness and/or the Crary Art Gallery may use submissions to promote this contest and subsequent gallery exhibit, both in print and electronic media. Entrants retain all copyright and ownership of submissions.
