Light Fantastic
Paintings on glass and mylar by John Lyon Paul

September 1 - 22, 2012
John Lyon Paul began to make artworks in the 1970s, at the same time that he began to practice meditation. These two practices, the receptive and the active, have anchored and informed his creative life. Entirely self-taught, and the master of many materials, John has recently been working on a series of "Studies" now showing at the Crary. These experimental works are painted in reverse on the back of clear Mylar or glass. John says that these paintings "grow like crystals." The multitextured results are extraordinarily fresh, immediate, and luminescent.
