Visible Forces
oil paintings by Rob Katkowski

June 4 - July 4, 2010

Rob Katkowski's abstract paintings are colorful invitations to experience the full force of our visual world. Seeing his paintings, you enter a world of vibrant, nuanced energy, alive with unusual color and form, suggestive of the landscape of our world yet beyond it.

The artist states that his "interests are entrenched in the unknown and forgotten.... In the early stages of a painting, I search to find a subject using formal elements suggested by the process. The layered, illusory spaces that emerge out of expressive marks and color enable me to make more specific decisions. By experimenting with the paint in new ways with each painting, I don't have to rely on the limited information I possess. It is through this process that I continually discover interesting ways to present my vision."

Katkowski holds an MFA in painting from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, 2007, and a BFA from Ohio State University, 1998. His work has been shown as far away as Belgium. He recently completed a series of twenty-two original paintings for the new luxury Fairmont Hotel in Pittsburgh, and his works are held in other collections such as PNC Bank in New York City.
