The artist says....
"In these newer paintings the scale is more modest, and the images generally avoid narrative content. The subjects are traditional and relatively innocuous [when contrasted to previous work], and include self portrait, still life, and the study of interior and exterior space. They are shaped by an analytical approach to form. As I regard each subject, specific observational and physical elements intrigue me, such as the distortions created by the bevel in a mirror, the manner in which the landscape is veiled through a dirty studio window, or the cool, diffuse northern light that permeates the studio.
"While the depiction of the subjects is fairly restrained, I am mindful of creating a surface that is subtly expressive and sensual. Ideally, the abstract elements work in tandem with the pictorial elements, infusing the image with a formal rigor and tactile presence that transcends the commonness of the subject."
